A Drawing A Day, Day 17 - 9.5.14

Day 17

September 05, 2014 in abstract, adrawingaday, creature like, drawing, gouache, heart, ink, splash

Today I felt a need to loosen up and splash some watered down gouache on a page. Some days just call for that. While drawing this I thought, "if hearts had teeth." A thought for later.

Pressing on time but I finished this just before the end of day. This was an idea stuck in my head since drawing the blow fish yesterday. A mutant me. :)

Day 8

August 27, 2014 in adrawingaday, drawing, gouache, jelly fish, sea life, watercolor

It's been a week since I started this project and I'm so happy about that. Now, 51 weeks to go. Can't wait to see how this develops. What I most enjoy about this is that I'm placed in a position to take things day by day. As such, for today here's a quick and loose color sketch of a jellyfish.

A Drawing A Day, Day 7 - 8.26.14

Day 7

August 26, 2014 in adrawingaday, ink, drawing, sea life, jelly fish

Today I learned that jellyfish don't have bones, a heart or a brain but do have a complex nerve net. Apparently they're more in the family of the coral. Wow. I took some freedom here but I swear I was staring at a jellyfish image! All in all I find myself getting more and more attracted to the sea life.

Day 4

August 23, 2014 in adrawingaday, drawing, watercolor, sea life

When I find a creature from the sea like the Portuguese man-of-war, it makes me stop and look in amazement at the incredible, exquisite beauty that nature can create. Furthermore, I wonder why we should try to recreate its image through painting if it exists in photographs for us to admire as they truly are. However, seeing the photographs of Aaron Ansarov in National Geographic today made my jaw drop. I had to grab my watercolors, not to recreate its image so much, but more so to learn from its seamlessness.

August 22, 2014 in abstract, creature like, adrawingaday, drawing, ink

Took to my micron pen today and kept things a bit more minimal. Images of plopping fish and octopuses came into my mind but I decided not to look for a reference but just go with it.

Day 1

August 20, 2014 in adrawingaday, gouache, abstract, creature like, ink, drawing

Here's the first drawing to kick off this one year project. I'm super excited to do this and can't wait to see what happens. For this first drawing I took on my favorite media- india ink and gouache! While abstract, I always find a figurative element to these drawings as well.
